A study on Psychological Strain in IVF




Abstract
Psychologic strain were studied with STAI(Stait-Trait Anxiety Inventory) and BDI (Beck Depression Inventory) on the emotional status of infertility women who will IVF program. Also we compared the degree of anxiety and depression according to
each
factors of demographic data. The data were obtained from 138 infertile women who entered the IVF program and 77 fertile women at the Hospital of Chung-Ang University from May 1991 to May 1992.
@ES The results are as follows:
@EN 1. There were statistically significant differences in T-A and BDI (P<0.05), P<0.0001) between the infertile women and fertile women, but not in S-A.
2. Three were statistically significant differences in STAI and BDI between the IVF-failed group and IVF-success group.
3. In the infertile group, according to DOI, STAI and BDI were significant decrease in the advanced stage(P<0.05).
4. In the infertile group, according to age, there were significant differences in S-A between below the 30 years and 30~35 years. But not in T-A and BDI.
5. According to religion and husband cooperation, there were no significant differences in STAI and BDI.
In conclusion, we must attention to infertile patients' specific personal and social circumstances. Also, the more Psychiatric evaluation is necessary for infertile women according to demographic factors during the evaluation and treatment of
their
infertility.
